Today (May 14, 2024, Tuesday), the Supreme Court (SC) bench Justice BR Gavai and Justice Sandeep Mehta quashed the FIR against the Principal of the New Government Law College, Indore (Dr. Inamur Rahman) for promoting ‘Hinduphobic’ and ‘anti-national’ propaganda after certain books were found in the college library. The criminal proceedings were lodged over the keeping of a book titled ‘Collective Violence and Criminal Justice System’ authored by Dr. Farhat Khan in the college library. While quashing the FIR, the SC bench said that “FIR is nothing but an absurdity.” The order of the SC reads, “This is a fit case where the court would exercise its jurisdiction under Article 142 and close the proceedings to prevent abuse of law and miscarriage of justice. Allowing the appeal, we, therefore, quash and set aside the FIR.”
