In a recent development, the Supreme Court (SC) of India decided to extend the interim bail granted to Hyderabad businessman Abhishek Boinpally (former director of Robin Distilleries LLP) in the Delhi Liquor Policy case until the next hearing date. The bench comprising Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Dipankar Datta rescheduled the matter for hearing in the week commencing from July 8, 2024. Boinpally, an alleged middleman has been under investigation along with several others in the Delhi Liquor Policy case. Initially arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation in October 2022, Boinpally secured bail a month later. However, his freedom was short-lived as the ED (Enforcement Directorate) successfully petitioned to take him into custody for 5 days, leading to his re-arrest in October 2022. Despite unsuccessful attempts for bail at the Special Court and the Delhi High Court, citing his alleged involvement in cartelization and kickback schemes, Boinpally found relief when the Supreme Court granted him interim bail on March 20, 2024. This interim bail has been extended following a mention by Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal on April 29, providing Boinpally with temporary respite until the next hearing. The SC bench on May 07, 2024 (Tuesday), further extended him interim bail until the next hearing (July 08). The order reads, β€œRe-list in week commencing 08.07.2024. Interim bail granted to the petitioner – Abhishek Boinpally vide order dated 20.03.2024 shall continue till the next date of hearing.”
