The Supreme Court bench heard a plea filed by the Andhra Pradesh Amateur Wrestling Federation to lift the interim order of the Punjab and Haryana High Court staying the Wrestling Federation of India elections on August 29, 2023. A bench comprising Justice Pankaj Mithal, and Justice Abhay S Oka dismissed the plea stating that “Instead of applying to the High Court for interim relief, the petitioner has chosen to approach the Supreme Court. We decline to entertain this special leave petition. However, it will be open for the petitioner to be impleaded before the High Court and file an application for vacation of stay.” During the court proceedings, Attorney General R. Venkataramani (appearing for the Union government) said that the petitioner directly approached the top Court bypassing the High Court.
