Supreme Court issues notice to Delhi Police seeking response in NewsClick UAPA case by October 30

Today, the Supreme Court of India was hearing the pleas filed by NewsClick founder and Editor-in-Chief Prabir Purkayastha and the news website’s Human Resources head, Amit Chakraborty, against their arrest and subsequent police remand in the UAPA case (Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act case). The matter was heard by a two-judge bench comprising Justice BR Gavai and Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra after the Delhi High Court refused to grant relief to them. The Special Leave Petition (SLP) filed by the duo was heard today, October 19, 2023, by the Supreme Court bench. The bench issued a notice seeking a response from Delhi Police on petitions and scheduled the hearing of the matter for October 30, 2023.
