In Brief
A car owner sold his vehicle but the sale was not properly registered with the Motor Vehicle Registration authority before an accident occurred. When the accident victim claimed compensation, the original owner argued he was no longer liable. The Supreme Court upheld the High Court's decision that, under the Motor Vehicles Act, a person remains the legal owner and remains liable for accident claims as long as their name is in the RTO records, even if they sold the vehicle. The insurance company is liable to pay compensation but can recover from the registered owner.
