A mother-in-law and her two children were murdered in 2001; the accused were acquitted despite the trial court noting improper investigation. The petitioner sought re-investigation via a Special Investigating Team. The Supreme Court constituted a SIT, which concluded that the accused were indeed involved based on fresh forensic evidence and disclosures. The Court directed the CBI to review the SIT report and determine whether further action should be taken, thereby permitting the investigating agency to make an informed decision on prosecution in light of the new findings."
