The Central Government has approved the appointment of Justice Sushrut Arvind Dharmadhikari as the Chief Justice of the Madras High Court. The appointment follows the recommendation of the Supreme Court Collegium and has been notified by the Union government.
Justice Dharmadhikari was serving as a judge of the Kerala High Court before being appointed to head the Madras High Court. Prior to his transfer to Kerala in 2025, he served for several years as a judge of the Madhya Pradesh High Court.
He began his legal career after enrolling as an advocate in 1992 and practiced primarily before the Madhya Pradesh High Court. Over the years, he also served as standing counsel for the Union of India. In 2016, he was appointed as an additional judge of the Madhya Pradesh High Court and was later confirmed as a permanent judge.
Justice Dharmadhikari now takes over as the Chief Justice of the Madras High Court following the retirement of the previous Chief Justice.
The appointment is made by the President of India after consultation with the Chief Justice of India and based on the recommendation of the Supreme Court Collegium.
