An environmental expert Sarang Yadwadkar filed a petition against the Mula-Mutha River rejuvenation project. He appealed before the National Green Tribunal (NGT) in January alleging that no full environmental requirements within the given time frame were considered by the Municipal Corporation (MC). The appeal was then rejected by the NGT; therefore, Sarang Yadwadkar approached the Supreme Court of India for the same. The top Court heard the matter on April 4, 2023 and dismissed the petition due to lack of sufficient facts to interfere in the project.

A project to beautify the banks of Mula-Mutha river was taken by the Pune MC whereas the representatives of the environmental organizations filed a plea claiming that it impacts or violated the environmental norms. The petition was filed before the NCT and the same was rejected by NCT in November. The work on the project began but Yadwadkar was against the decision and demanded to stop the river bank improvement project.
