JAIPUR: The Rajasthan High Court has issued a stay on legal proceedings against actor Salman Khan and the makers of Rajshree Pan Masala. The case involves allegations that a specific advertisement for "silver-coated elaichi" acted as a surrogate promotion for pan masala, which the complainant argued was a violation of the Consumer Protection Act, 2019.
The stay order was delivered by Justice Anuroop Singhi following a challenge to a District Consumer Commission's decision. That commission had previously ordered a halt to the ads and issued bailable warrants against the actor. Khan’s legal representatives maintained that the actor's contract was strictly for the endorsement of cardamom products and not for any prohibited substances. They also argued that the local consumer court did not have the authority to rule on misleading advertisements, claiming such oversight belongs exclusively to the Central Consumer Protection Authority.
The High Court's intervention comes after the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) separately paused the execution of the warrants. The High Court has now stopped all further proceedings in the local forum and scheduled a follow-up hearing for May 12, 2026.
Discription: The Rajasthan High Court has stayed consumer court proceedings against actor Salman Khan regarding his endorsement of "Rajshree Elaichi." The stay follows a complaint alleging that the advertisement served as a surrogate promotion for pan masala, violating the Consumer Protection Act, 2019. Previously, a District Commission had restrained the ads and issued bailable warrants against the actor.
Khan’s legal team argued that the actor only endorsed silver-coated cardamom and that the District Commission lacked jurisdiction over misleading ads, which fall under the Central Consumer Protection Authority. Justice Anuroop Singhi paused all proceedings, with the next hearing scheduled for May 12, 2026.
