TMC National general secretary Abhishek Banerjee and his wife Rujira Banerjee went to the top Court today, challenging the ED’s summons in regarding a money laundering matter related to the coal scam case.

Few months back, the MP was questioned by the ED for about 8 hours. Both MP and his wife had sought direction from the Delhi HC to the Enforcement directorate that they must not be summoned for physical presence in Delhi.

They requested the top court to decide whether the Enforcement directorate takes all India jurisdiction in regarding the summoning of persons from anywhere to Delhi.

The Delhi HC recently rejected the MP couple petition challenging the summons that ordered them to present in front of the ED.

The ED summons to Banerjee and the cops summons to the 3 ED officials are connected to the multi-crore illegal coal mining allegations that happened 2 years back, after the government owned ECL Eastern coal limited lodged a complaint.

The illegal coal-mining scam, which happened in the ongoing state of Bengal, is at present being questioned by CBI and ED.

Banerjee said that he earlier got an email from the Enforcement directorate, seeking him to present in front of them on Monday.

As per the summons issued by the West Bengal department of police, the ED officials have to report at the police by 12pm today.
