In the context of the recent incident where an Advocate tried to fling a shoe at the Chief Justice of India (CJI) during a Supreme Court proceeding, the Telangana Judges Association (TJA) strongly condemned the attack on the CJI BR Gavai in the Supreme Court. The President of the Association, G. Rajagopal, and the General Secretary, K Murali Mohan, said the attack on the CJI is a “direct assault on the rule of law and the sanctity of our democracy.” A strict and immediate legal action was demanded by the association against the person responsible, ensuring such actions do not repeat in the future. The incident occurred when Advocate Rakesh Kishore attempted to fling a shoe at the CJI during a court proceeding. The security intervened, and the shoe did not hit the bench. Staying calm, CJI Gavai told the courtroom, “ Don’t get distracted.. These things don’t affect me. I am the last person to be affected by such things.” The Bar Council suspended the license of the attacker, while legal and political bodies across India, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, condemned the act. Lawyers in Telangana and other states boycotted proceedings in protest, demanding strict action.
