The Union Government has issued a formal notification effecting a change in the leadership of two High Courts, transferring Justice Soumen Sen, presently serving as the Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court, to the Kerala High Court in the same capacity.

The transfer has been made in exercise of powers under Article 222 of the Constitution of India, which enables the President to transfer High Court judges after consultation with the Chief Justice of India. Justice Sen is expected to assume office as Chief Justice of the Kerala High Court upon the retirement of the incumbent Chief Justice.

Judicial transfers of this nature are part of the established administrative mechanism aimed at maintaining institutional efficiency, ensuring regional balance, and strengthening judicial independence across High Courts.

In the same notification, the Centre has also cleared appointments to fill leadership positions in other High Courts, reflecting a broader reshuffle in the higher judiciary based on recommendations of the Supreme Court Collegium.

Such decisions form an integral part of the constitutional framework governing the functioning of the higher judiciary in India and are routinely undertaken to ensure continuity and effective judicial administration.
