Two more judges will take oath today, bringing the Supreme Court to full strength

Today, the former Chief Justice of Allahabad and Gujarat High Courts, Justice Rajesh Bindal and Justice Aravind Kumar respectively, take the oath of office (Supreme Court judges) in the presence of all the judges. On January 31, the Collegium recommended their names for elevation as Supreme Court judges and on February 10, the Centre notified their appointment. Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud administered the oath, their appointments lead the Supreme Court to have a full working strength of 34 judges. The Supreme Court had its full sanctioned working strength of 34 during the period of September 2019 to November 2019 which means after 2 years (approximately), the top Court will experience its full working strength. Within a span of a week, the Supreme Court is experiencing a second oath-taking ceremony. On February 6, 2023, five new judges were appointed as Supreme Court judges, Justice Sanjay Karol, Justice Ahsanuddin Amanullah, Justice Pankaj Mithal, Justice Manoj Mishra, and Justice PV Sanjay Kumar had taken the oath swearing true faith and allegiance to the Constitution.
