Big relief to Mukhtar Ansari - Supreme Court stays High Court’s decision

While hearing Mukhtar Ansari vs. State of Uttar Pradesh case, the top Court stayed the order delivered by the Allahabad High Court sentencing seven years of imprisonment to Mukhtar Ansari who is the former legislator of the Bahujan Samaj Party. He was accused of threatening the jailer, SK Awasthi, by pointing a pistol at him in 2003. 
The High Court set aside the acquittal by Trial Court and found him guilty under sections 353, 504, and 506 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860. The division bench passed an order to hold the HC verdict.
