CJI DY Chandrachud approved fresh guidelines, engaging Law interns in the Supreme Court

The fresh guidelines to engage services of Law interns and research associates in the Supreme Court were approved by the Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud. The top Court came with a “Scheme for Engaging Law Clerk-cum-Research Associates on Short-Term Contractual Assignment in the Supreme Court of India.” 

The notification regarding the same illustrates that “A Law Clerk will be paid a consolidated remuneration of Rs. 80,000 per month for the assignment term and there will be no other allowances/ perquisites.” If any extension is given to the person after 12 months of the initial assignment then Rs. 90,000 per month will be paid as a consolidated remuneration for the extended time period. 

The notification also highlighted that two out of four Law Clerks would be selected by the CJI and other judges of the Supreme Court via the selection process of the top Court Registry. In order to be selected for the same, Law Clerks have to prepare for a brief summary regarding the fresh cases listed for admission before the Supreme Court of India. Along with this, they also have to prepare a synopsis including regular cases heard in the apex Court and arguments made during the hearing of the cases.
