Directions issued for involving transgenders in backward classes by the Allahabad High Court

While hearing the case, Vaibhav Pandey vs. State of Uttar Pradesh, the Allahabad High Court quashed the draft notification issued by the government of Uttar Pradesh seeking  reservation for OBCs (Other Backward Classes) in the ULB (Urban Local Body) elections. A total of 96 public interest Litigation were filed regarding the alleged personal grievances, including the objection to providing reservation to backward classes. One of the petitions asked the state government to classify transgender people as backward and grant them a reservation in ULB elections. The bench of the Allahabad High Court stated that the notifications to be issued for elections must include reservations for women, and the inclusion of transgenders in backward classes of citizens would also be considered.
