SC rejects appeal to construct temporary quarters for personnel over the banks of the Yamuna River

Today (January 02, 2024), a two-judge bench of the Supreme Court (SC) dismissed an appeal by the Delhi Police against the NGT’s (National Green Tribunal) order. The NGT denied permission to the appellant to construct temporary quarters for personnel over the banks of the Yamuna River. The matter was presented before the SC bench consisting of Justice Ujjal Bhuyan and Justice Abhay S Oka. The bench said that the construction over the banks of the Yamuna River cannot be allowed. It added that steps to protect the environment should be taken and further rejected the appeal. During the court proceedings, the SC bench did not accept the appellant’s arguments that the NGT had been mistaken in denying the permission.
