Supreme Court Updates 06 June 2023

After four decades, Supreme Court agrees to hear plea of adulteration on June 8, 2023

Today, Supreme Court agree to hear plea of adulteration convict Virendra Singh for suspension of his sentence and bail. Accused is of above 80 years of age and was convicted by trial court 39 years ago on September 29, 1984 and he was sentenced to one year rigorous imprisonment along with fine of Rs. 2000. Mr. Singh had approached Sessions Court against his conviction but Sessions Court did not agree with him and affirmed the view of Trial Court. Later on, Mr. Singh filed an appeal before High Court which reduced the sentence of imprisonment to six months.

Interestingly, Accused surrendered recently before trial court on 20th April 2023 after remaining on bail for almost four decades. He deposited the fine as directed by the trial court on the same day of his surrender. Supreme Court will hear the matter on June 8, 2023 (Thursday).
