Supreme Court remarks “We have three ceremonial benches tomorrow, three judges are retiring” during summer vacation

Today, Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud remarked in the Court that three ceremonial benches will be set up in the Supreme Court on the occasion of the retirement of three Supreme Court judges during the summer vacations. The counsels when seeking dates for their matters, the CJI told them that the Court is likely to be busy tomorrow and stated that “We can’t take matters up tomorrow. If it’s urgent, mention it before the vacation bench. We have three ceremonial benches tomorrow, three judges are retiring.” The judges referred by the CJI are Justice V Ramasubramanian, Justice Ajay Rastogi, and Justice KM Joseph, who are retiring in the month of June. The Supreme Court is setting up a ceremonial bench tomorrow (May 19) because from next week onwards (May 22), the Court will be on Summer vacation. This vacation will start on May 22, 2023, and end on July 2, 2023. The Supreme Court had already listed the names of Judges for the Summer vacation bench who will hear fresh matters.
