Supreme Court to hear tech giant Google's plea against NCLAT orders tomorrow

Tomorrow is a big day for Google as the Supreme Court bench is to hear Google’s plea regarding the penalty of Rs. 1337.76 crores. This penalty was imposed by the CCI (Competition Commission of India). The top Court will also address the tech giant’s appeal against the order of NCLAT (National Company Law Appellate Tribunal) refusing the stay of ten remedial directions issued by CCI. In addition, Google is facing antitrust investigations for abuse of its dominant market position.

The Apex Court asked Google whether they would be able to follow the same regime as of Europe in India. In Europe, Google implemented a “Choice Screen” for general search providers on every new Android phone and tablet where Google search app is pre-installed.

Tomorrow’s decision may lead to change in Google’s business model with the introduction of new features. Also, Android users may face bittersweet emotion regarding this change which may result in increased pricing and security issues.
