Amar Nath Neogi vs State of Jharkhand

Bench: 2 — Kurian

In Brief

An elderly man accused of cheating and document-related offences sought anticipatory bail from the Supreme Court, but the investigation had already been completed and a final report filed before the court. The Supreme Court held that anticipatory bail is inappropriate once the investigation is finished. Instead, the Court directed him to surrender within two weeks before the trial court, which would then grant regular bail. He was released on a Rs. 50,000 bond with two sureties, given his age over 65 and lack of government service record.
