Asha Rani purchased a property previously owned by Jaswant Singh (deceased 1989). A legal heir filed an FIR in 1998 alleging fraudulent transfer, but the initial charge-sheet (1999) did not name Asha Rani as accused, recognizing her as a bona fide purchaser. A supplementary charge-sheet arraying her as an accused was filed in 2008. The Supreme Court allowed her appeal to quash it, holding that a compromise agreement (2013) between Asha Rani and the sole surviving legal heir, Nirmal Singh Grewal, explicitly acknowledged the property had devolved on her properly with no grievance. The Court ruled that the supplementary charge-sheet filed nearly a decade later should not be sustained when the injured party had settled the matter.
