Ashwani Kumar vs Union of India and Ors

Bench: 2 — 2

In Brief

During the Covid-19 crisis, a petitioner sought protection for elderly people facing hardship. The Supreme Court issued directions to ensure elderly beneficiaries receive regular pensions, essential medicines, masks, sanitizers, and protective goods from their respective States. The Court mandated priority admission for elderly people in Government hospitals for Covid-19 treatment based on their vulnerability, and required immediate redressal of complaints. Care givers in old age homes were to receive personal protection equipment, with appropriate sanitization measures implemented. The application was listed for hearing after four weeks to allow States to file responses."
