In Brief
A man convicted by a trial court of murdering another with a knife received bail from the High Court pending his appeal. The Supreme Court set aside this bail order. The Court found that the accused's conviction was based on prima facie evidence: the autopsy showed five injuries, two caused by a sharp-edged weapon; witnesses testified that a knife similar to a dagger was recovered from the accused. Although the accused had been imprisoned for 4.5 years and had health issues, these did not outweigh the strength of evidence. The Court held that bail should not be granted in serious cases like murder when prima facie evidence supports the conviction.
