In Brief
Chhidda Singh, who had served more than 21 years in actual incarceration (approximately 28 years with remission), filed a writ petition seeking pre-mature release from jail. The Supreme Court held that given the substantial length of incarceration already served, provisional bail was warranted pending final determination of the premature release petition. The Court ordered the petitioner's release on personal bond, with a condition to report to the local police station fortnightly. The bail application was disposed of accordingly.
