In Brief
National badminton players Chirag Sen and Lakshya Sen faced criminal charges for allegedly falsifying birth records to qualify for age-restricted tournaments. A private complainant alleged they and their coach conspired to forge documents. However, identical allegations had been examined and closed eight years earlier by the Sports Authority of India and Central Vigilance Commission, which found no wrongdoing. The Supreme Court found the complaint was driven by personal vendetta—the complainant's grievance arose only after his daughter was denied academy admission. The Court held the allegations lacked essential criminal elements, relied on unverified documents, and showed no evidence of dishonest gain or wrongful loss. Finding clear abuse of process, the Court quashed the FIR and all proceedings.
