On 12 November 2005, a motorcycle collided with an insured car in Haryana. The motorcycle riders claimed compensation under the Motor Vehicles Act. The insurance company argued the car driver's licence was expired, citing a register entry showing expiry on 26.02.2003. However, the licence document itself stated validity until 29.04.2011 (the day before the driver turned 50). The Supreme Court held that the licence was valid under Section 14 of the Motor Vehicles Act, which prescribes validity until age 50. The licence's authenticity was supported by subsequent renewals. The appeals were allowed and the insurance company's liability was restored.
