In Brief
Darshan Singh and co-appellant were convicted of murder in the death of a woman. While no poison was administered (Aluminum Phosphide), the post-mortem revealed a fractured hyoid bone suggesting strangulation, despite no visible ligature marks due to decomposition. The accused's dupatta was wrapped unusually around the neck with two turns. Acid was recovered from the house after the accused disclosed its location, and acid-induced disfigurement of the face was documented. A concealed folding iron chair was also recovered. The Supreme Court affirmed conviction, holding that decomposition destroyed soft tissue evidence, the circumstantial evidence formed a complete chain proving guilt, and the extra-judicial confession was supported by medical findings. Both appeals were dismissed.
