In Brief
This criminal appeal challenged the conviction of appellants under Sections 304, 148, and 149 of the Indian Penal Code for assault causing injury. The Supreme Court affirmed their conviction, holding that despite minor variations in timing and description of the occurrence place, the appellants formed part of a common group with shared criminal intent to assault. Their assembly with weapons and joint participation in assault established liability. While upholding guilt, the Court reduced their sentences considering the offences occurred four decades ago and the appellants' advanced age. The appeal was partly allowed on sentencing grounds only.
