Ganga Prasad Mahto was convicted of rape under Section 376 IPC and sentenced to seven years' imprisonment. Both the trial court and High Court upheld the conviction. The Supreme Court reversed the conviction and acquitted him. The Court found that the prosecution failed to prove rape beyond reasonable doubt because: the complainant was not medically examined; no doctor testified; the complainant had made similar false allegations against others previously; there was enmity between the appellant and the complainant's husband; the complainant had a habit of making wild allegations; there was no eyewitness; and the complainant's husband was absent. The Court held that the evidence was insufficient to establish the charge.
