Land was acquired by the State of UP for Greater Noida in 1993. The Special Land Acquisition Officer awarded compensation at very low rates. The appellants sought reference under the Land Acquisition Act and claimed higher compensation based on comparable lands. The District Judge awarded Rs. 267 per square yard plus solatium. Against the District Judge's order, the Greater Noida authorities appealed, and the appellants filed cross objections seeking further enhancement. The High Court dismissed the main appeal but completely failed to address or mention the cross objections in its judgment. The Supreme Court held that an appellate court must consider all issues, including cross objections, and remanded the case to the High Court for fresh decision on the cross objections.
