In Brief
Landholders from three villages (Bas Khusla, Bas Haria, and Dhana) sought clarification on a prior Supreme Court judgment fixing their land compensation at Rs. 29,77,333 per acre. However, they had already received Rs. 37,40,000 per acre during earlier proceedings and were directed to return the excess. The Court held that, given the authorities had passed the burden to subsequent allottees (recovering far more than disbursed to the original landholders) and recovery would cause undue hardship, it would invoke Article 142 powers to relieve landholders from returning the excess. The fixed compensation rate remained unchanged, but landholders need not refund the difference.
