Supreme Court of India 2019-08-19 partly_allowed

Bench: 2 — <UNKNOWN>, <UNKNOWN>

In Brief

In a suo moto criminal matter under investigation by the CBI, the Supreme Court examined a progress report and found that while substantial investigation had been done, some critical aspects remained incomplete—particularly the recording of statements from the victim and her counsel, both medically unfit. The Court extended the investigation deadline to 6 September 2019. Additionally, recognizing that the victim's counsel remained in critical condition at AIIMS despite free treatment, the Court directed the State of Uttar Pradesh to immediately pay Rs. 5 lakh to his wife for ancillary medical expenses, to be adjusted against final compensation eventually awarded."
