In Brief

A child sexual abuse victim in Lucknow developed pneumonia and required specialized medical care. The Supreme Court, exercising suo motu writ jurisdiction, directed the State of Uttar Pradesh to airlift the victim by air-ambulance to Delhi and admit her to AIIMS for treatment, subject to medical fitness certification. The Court ordered AIIMS to make necessary arrangements for proper treatment and care, and clarified that AIIMS's responsibility commenced from the Delhi Airport. The victim's family members were permitted to accompany her under similar arrangements. The matter was listed for further consideration on 9 August 2019."
