In Re: Hon'ble Mr. Justice C.S. Karnan vs Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission & Anr

Bench: 7 — <UNKNOWN>

In Brief

Justice C.S. Karnan of the Madras High Court was found to be in contempt of the Supreme Court after continuing to issue purported judicial orders and making press statements despite being directed to cease all judicial and administrative work. The Supreme Court restrained all courts, tribunals and authorities from recognizing these orders. Observing that Karnan's conduct suggested possible medical unfitness, the Court directed a medical examination by a board of doctors to determine his fitness to defend himself in the contempt proceedings. The Supreme Court Bar Association was permitted to intervene in the matter given its legal importance."
