In Brief
Indian Oil Corporation terminated a petrol pump dealer's dealership after investigations revealed excess stock of 5,160 litres in High Speed Diesel and inoperative fuel-dispensing units. The dealer had signed the inspection report but later claimed he did so due to physical ailment and that officials exploited his condition. The High Court quashed the termination order. The Supreme Court held that the dealer had a duty to verify the inspection report's contents before signing; he cannot now escape the consequences by pleading ailment. The termination was lawful, made in accordance with the corporation's guidelines. The Court set aside the High Court's judgment and restored the termination order."
