In Brief
A public-interest writ petition sought enforcement of a Lokayukta report recommending investigation of two officials for acquiring substantial assets at significantly undervalued prices. The High Court dismissed it, holding the Lokayukta's opinion non-conclusive and that the High Court should not entertain such petitions. The Supreme Court found the dismissal improper. However, as the State had since directed vigilance inquiries and multiple agencies (Vigilance, ED, CBI) registered FIRs and commenced investigations, the appellant's relief was largely achieved. The Court disposed the appeal by allowing law enforcement agencies six months to complete ongoing investigations, without opining on merits or defences.
