The Supreme Court addressed appeals challenging the High Court's valuation of approximately 63.70 acres of land acquired by the Chandigarh Administration for defence purposes. The High Court had valued the land at Rs.11,30,000 per acre by averaging comparable sales and applying a 50% deduction for size differences. The Court held the High Court's reliance on those sale instances was final, but modified the deduction from 50% to 40%, resulting in compensation of Rs.13,54,200 per acre. Land owners were granted statutory benefits on the enhanced amount and solatium for delay, but not interest on delay. All appeals were partly allowed."
