In Brief

This writ petition addressed the implementation of the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016 across India. The Court observed that widespread vector-borne diseases appeared to result from poor solid waste management. Finding the issue of considerable importance, the Court required the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change to file an affidavit within four weeks detailing implementation of the Rules, and directed notice to the Central Pollution Control Board regarding steps taken for solid waste management. The matter was listed for further hearing on 12 December 2017."> </invoke>
