This suo moto petition addressed the functioning of Forensic Science Laboratories in criminal cases under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012. The Supreme Court directed State Directors of Forensic Science Laboratories and concerned government authorities to ensure that existing laboratories function effectively for forensic analysis in child protection cases. Laboratories were directed to commence functioning within 60 days, with the matter to be listed again on 26 September 2019 for review.
