During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Supreme Court addressed difficulties faced by litigants in filing petitions and appeals within statutory limitation periods. The Court extended the exclusion of limitation periods to 28 February 2022, covering 15 March 2020 onwards. This applies to all court and tribunal proceedings, as well as specific statutes including the Arbitration and Conciliation Act 1996, the Commercial Courts Act 2015, and the Negotiable Instruments Act 1881. Litigants whose cases would have become time-barred during the excluded period were given a minimum 90-day grace period from 1 March 2022 to file proceedings, or their actual remaining limitation period if longer.
