In Brief
A young woman died by suicide within seven months of marriage amid allegations of dowry-related harassment. The original FIR named her husband and mother-in-law; her brother later sought to add the father-in-law, sister-in-law, and brother-in-law as additional accused under Section 319 of the Criminal Procedure Code. The High Court agreed; the Supreme Court partially allowed the appeal. It held that the father-in-law could be tried as he lived with the couple and was likely privy to abuse, but the sister-in-law and brother-in-law lacked credible evidence of involvement and cannot be tried on mere suspicion alone.
