Justice V.S. Dave President, The Association of Retd. Judges of Supreme Court and High Courts vs Kusumjit Sidhu and Ors

Bench: 2 — <UNKNOWN>, <UNKNOWN>

In Brief

The Supreme Court reviewed the implementation of its previous orders directing States to pay allowances to retired Chief Justices and High Court Judges on the Andhra Pradesh Model—Rs. 14,000 monthly for Chief Justices and Rs. 12,000 for Judges, plus 1,500 free telephone calls monthly. Most States had complied by 2012–2014. Jammu & Kashmir assured the Court of enhancement from lower rates. The Court directed all States to uniformly adhere to this model with effect from 1st October 2014, ordered payment of all arrears expeditiously, and disposed of all contempt and writ petitions with liberty to report non-compliance."
