Two daughters of a deceased father claimed inheritance of family property under Mizo Customary Law against the widow and daughters of their predeceased brother. Although Mizo Customary Law ordinarily grants inheritance rights to the youngest son, the Supreme Court held that such rights are conditional on discharging family duties toward parents in old age. Since the brother had not cared for the mother and one sister had returned after divorce to care for her until death, the Court affirmed the lower court's decision dividing the property equitably between the two sisters based on their care responsibilities, rather than allowing the brother's heirs exclusive rights under rigid succession rules.">
