In Brief
A widow sought Liberalised Family Pension after her Army officer husband died of sudden cardiac failure while posted in Operation Rakshak, a notified operational area in Jammu and Kashmir. Although the High Court had ordered alteration of his service record to reflect operational service, the Supreme Court dismissed her appeal, holding that Liberalised Family Pension is available only to Armed Forces personnel killed or injured in live action, not to those who die of natural causes regardless of operational deployment. The Court found the death did not arise from combat or active engagement, and therefore did not qualify under the regulatory criteria, despite the widow's service record being corrected.
