Kopargaon Taluka Sakhar Kamgar Sabha, a registered trade union, held elections with an Election Programme that included unit-wise reservations for Vice-Presidents and Secretaries, and eight seats reserved for women—provisions not found in the union's Constitution. Members challenged this programme before the Industrial Court, which quashed it and directed elections strictly according to the Constitution. The High Court upheld this decision. The Supreme Court dismissed the appeal, holding that an Election Programme must strictly conform to the union's Constitution and governing statute; an Election Officer cannot unilaterally introduce new stipulations, however reasonable, if they lack constitutional or statutory foundation.
