In Brief
The Supreme Court quashed a Delhi High Court decision that had allowed a writ petition by a subsequent purchaser seeking lapsing of a land acquisition under the 2013 RFCTLARR Act. The Court held that a person who purchased land after acquisition proceedings commenced and an award was declared has no legal standing to challenge or seek lapsing of the acquisition. The Court also noted the High Court failed to address the locus standi objection before deciding the substantive matter. The appeal was allowed and the deemed lapse of acquisition was set aside.
