In Brief
A dispute arose over agricultural land in Haryana concerning the execution of a 1965 decree based on customary rights under the Punjab Custom Act. The judgment-debtors argued in the Supreme Court that a 1973 amendment to the Act retroactively nullified the decree. The Court held that once a decree becomes final and the lis ends, subsequent legislative amendments do not affect rights already crystallized. The executing court properly refused to reopen factual matters behind the decree. The appeal was dismissed as the legal objection was raised for the first time in the Supreme Court and was without merit.
