In Brief
A widow and elder daughter sought declaration of joint ownership of a house bequeathed to them under a 2000 Will. The testator also named grandchildren to inherit after the widow and daughter's deaths. The High Court held only a life interest was created. The Supreme Court reversed this, holding that paragraph 2 of the Will, using the words "vest" and "exclusive owner," granted absolute rights to the widow and elder daughter with no words of limitation. Consequently, the later bequest to grandchildren was void as conflicting with the earlier absolute disposition.
