Mahtab Alam vs State of Bihar

Bench: 3 — <UNKNOWN>, <UNKNOWN>, <UNKNOWN>

In Brief

The petitioner filed a special leave petition challenging a High Court's rejection of his anticipatory bail application. Before the Supreme Court could grant interim protection, the petitioner was arrested and subsequently obtained regular bail. The Supreme Court found the petition infructuous—the underlying prayer for pre-arrest bail protection had become moot. The petition was disposed of. The Court, however, noted concern that despite ordering the matter for return in four weeks on 19 September 2019, it went unheard for nearly a year, and directed the Registry to explain this administrative delay.
